NanoSystems Lab. at a glance
Members : Currently, total 19 people, including
one professor, two Post-Doctoral Researchers, nine Ph.D. candidates, four
M.S. candidates and three staff members of the NanoSentuating Systems
Laboratory (NanoSystems Lab), are currently working toward creating
and developing the Nano and Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (N/MEMS),
in which electrical, mechanical, thermofluidic, optical and biological
nano/micro components are combined to achieve new, improved sensing,
actuating and controlling functions as an entire system.
Research & Development Activity : The former, Micromachines
and Microsystems Laboratory (MicroLab) established in 1991, has
pioneered MEMS research in Korea, while developing and performing
industry-supported research projects for the development of fundamental
technologies, functional microdevices and novel microsystems for
practical applications. Since 2002, NanoSentuating Systems Laboratory (NanoSystems Lab) has extended
the research regime into the nano scale world, focusing on the N/MEMS
research for probing and influencing nanophysical realms.
Education & Training Programs : Nanosentuating Systems
Laboratory has developed series of courses and training programs
in N/MEMS areas KAIST and have included 5 undergraduate courses,
7 graduate courses and two short courses. Among them, the graduate
courses, "MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS)" and "NanoElectroMechanical
Systems (NEMS)," have been offered at KAIST in 1994 and 2002,
respectively, as the first regular graduate N/MEMS courses in Korea.
Facility & Infrastructure : Research activities and education
programs of NanoSystems Lab are supported by the fabrication facility
for micro/nano machining, encapsulation, interconnection, isolation,
bonding packaging and assembly processes, as well as by the analytical
instruments for the experimental characterization and verification
of nano/micro phenomena, device performance and system functions.
Publications : NanoSystems Lab has published 63 international
journal papers; 180 international conference papers; 13 foreign
patents; 58 domestic journal papers; 74 domestic conference papers;
39 domestic patents; 26 domestic technical review papers; 15 domestic
books & booklets; 76 domestic research reports.
