Professor

Prof. Young-Ho CHO
Full professor of Department of Bio and Brain Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering at KAIST, is in charge of the NanoSentuating Systems Laboratory (NanoSystems Lab). Prof. Cho's research interests are focused on Nano and Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (N/MEMS) and have included functional components, actuators, inertial sensors and fabrication process, for integrated sentuating devices and systems in nano/micro regimes. Since 1987, he has devoted to MEMS research and has been active in the development and refinement of new and existing OptoElectroMechanical devices and systems. Current research topics include the design, microfabrication, characterization and implementation of N/MEMS for applications to automotive electronics, inertial navigation system, computer and consumer products, information and telecommunication systems and biomedical equipment. Since 1997, Dr. Cho has served as a Technical Program Committee Member of the IEEE MEMS Conference and the IEEE optical MEMS conference. In Korea, he has been the Chair of the Steering Committee and the Research Planning Board for Korea Government MEMS Programs. He is a member of ASME, IEEE, KSME, KIEE, KSAE (the Korea Society of Automotive Engineers), KITE (the Korea Institute of Telematics and Electronics), and KSS (the Korean Sensors Society). Dr. Cho's biography has been included in the Marquis WHO'S WHO IN THE WORLD (1994-) and the Marquis WHO'S WHO IN THE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING (1995-) as an international MEMS specialist. Dr. Cho was also honored with the Grand Prize for Nanotechnology Research Innovation from Deputy Prime Minister of Science and Technology in 2005, National Nano & Bio Scientist Award from Minister of Science and Technology in 2003. Dr. Cho received the M.S. degree (1982) from KAIST and the Ph.D. degree (1990) from the University of California at Berkeley, being the first ME Ph.D. in MEMS area in U.S.A.
