1) Industry

Samsung Electro-Mechanics (SEM) was established in 1973 as a manufacturer of key electronic components. SEM pioneered the technological framework for Korean production of A/V components in the 1970s, and in the 1980s the company diversified into materials and computer parts In the early 1990s, the focus was on manufacturing chip components, multi-layer circuit boards, and mobile communication and optical components. In the late 1990s, operations expanded into the production of digital products with applied high-frequency, software, engineering and design technologies.

LG Electronics Institute of Technology (LG ELITE) is the key electronic CTO Research Center. It supports the key business of the LG Electronics' and carries out mid-term research tasks requiring high-level technology integration utilizing a highly capable staff. LG ELITE has made efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of electronic through the development of mobile communication parts, and the development of high-density storage media and systems, next-generation display technologies such as organic EL, and video information processing technologies.

2) Research Institute

Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials (KIMM), the government funded research institute, is established to plan, research & develop, test & evaluate and provide technical support in the field of machinery and materials and to promote the advancement of the nationí»s science and technology.

Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) is a recognized leader in the information and telecommunication research institute in Korea. ETRI has successfully developed information technologies such as TDX-Exchange, High Density Semiconductor Microchips, Mini-Super Computer (TiCOM), and Digital Mobile Telecommunication System (CDMA).

Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) is the only government research institute dedicated to biotechnology research across a broad span of expertise, from basic studies for the fundamental understanding of life phenomena to applied studies such as new drug discovery, novel biomaterials, integrated biotechnology, and bioinformation.
